A drone strike in Iraq's Kurdistan region killed a member of an Iranian Kurdish armed opposition group on Wednesday, his exiled party said, with a senior official from the group blaming the attack on Iran. The Komala party is one of several Iraq-based Iranian Kurdish groups that have long opposed the Islamic republic.
At least eight drones targeted the party's positions, killing one fighter, the party said.
Komala senior official Ali Ranjder told AFP the two-wave attack hit the Zrgwezala region near the city of Sulaimaniyah. He blamed it on Iran.
Two fighters were also wounded, with one taken to a Sulaimaniyah hospital, he added.
"This is the most violent attack against our bases since the beginning of the war," another official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a massive campaign against Iran, sparking a war that has since engulfed the Middle East.
"Drones are still flying in the skies over the area," he added.
Since the start of the war, Iran has repeatedly struck Kurdish militants' positions in Iraq, which it accuses of serving Western or Israeli interests.
A Komala fighter was killed last week in an attack in the Sulaimaniyah region.
The Komala party was founded in 1969 by students and intellectuals in Tehran and Kurdish cities.
Kurdish rebels groups have previously fought Iranian security forces in Kurdish-majority areas along the border.
But in recent years, under political pressure mostly from their Iraqi hosts, they have drastically limited their military activities.
