On August 28, 2025, the French Defence Procurement and Technology Agency (DGA) awarded ArianeGroup a contract to design and manufacture the fourth generation of France's strategic ballistic missile, the M51.4.

The award comes as the M51.3 enters service and ArianeGroup ramps up production to meet the program's schedule. "On behalf of ArianeGroup and all the teams, I would like to thank DGA for its renewed confidence in our highly strategic expertise and capabilities, which are vital to France's Strategic Oceanic Force," said Vincent Pery, Director of Defence Programs at ArianeGroup.

The M51.4 will deliver greater range, precision and penetration performance, further strengthening the credibility of France's sea-based nuclear deterrent in the face of evolving threats.

This program initiates the design and subsequent production of the M51.4, securing long-term activity for ArianeGroup and hundreds of industrial partners. It will also act as a catalyst for innovation, integrating advanced technologies and methods to achieve demanding technical and cost objectives.

Since 2010, ArianeGroup has served as prime contractor for the Strategic Oceanic Force's M51 program on behalf of DGA, covering all phases from design and production to in-service support, maintenance and eventual decommissioning.
