Momentus Inc. has signed a contract to launch a demonstration mission for Pulsar Fusion's next-generation Hall Effect Thruster (HET) propulsion system. The U.S.-based satellite services provider will integrate Pulsar's technology aboard its Vigoride orbital service vehicle, with launch scheduled for late 2026.

The mission is designed to provide Pulsar with an in-orbit platform to validate its advanced HET design. This system is engineered to offer high specific impulse, efficient thrust, and long-duration operational capabilities suitable for satellite station-keeping, orbital maneuvers, and future deep space missions.

Momentus CEO John Rood stated, "We're thrilled to support Pulsar's journey to develop next generation technology. Our Vigoride orbital service vehicle is designed to accelerate innovation by providing reliable access to space for emerging technologies. Pulsar's HET system represents a leap forward in sustainable propulsion, and we're proud to help bring it to orbit."

The upcoming test campaign will assess performance metrics in the space environment, including thermal stability, electromagnetic compatibility, and thrust efficiency. By conducting these evaluations in orbit, Pulsar aims to validate its propulsion approach under real mission conditions.

The collaboration underscores the growing importance of flexible orbital service vehicles in supporting innovation across the commercial space sector. Both companies emphasize that such missions contribute to advancing scalable and sustainable infrastructure for future satellite operations and interplanetary transport.

Themis reusable rocket demonstrator stands ready in Sweden
Berlin, Germany (SPX) Sep 25, 2025
The European Space Agency's first full-scale reusable rocket demonstrator, Themis, is now positioned on its launch pad at the Esrange Space Center in northern Sweden. The milestone marks the start of preparations for low-altitude flight tests designed to validate vertical take-off and landing operations using cryogenic propulsion. The first test model, known as T1H for Themis-1 engine-Hop, arrived in Kiruna earlier this summer after a 3000 km journey by truck from the ArianeGroup integration site ... read more
