The latest science fiction movies promise to take us to exciting planets and worlds on new adventures. What are some of the most eagerly awaited releases for the end of 2025 and early 2026 that we should be looking forward to?

The Growing Role of Sci-Fi in Modern Entertainment

Before looking at specific titles, it's worth taking a moment to consider how sci-fi has become a huge part of the modern entertainment industry. Movies make up a huge part of this, with the list of top lifetime gross income movies including Avatar and various Star Wars titles. TV shows based on sci-fi stories have also been extremely popular, with many books and movies in the genre being made into TV spin-offs.

As we continue to wonder about whether aliens exist and struggle to understand the impact of cutting-edge technology on the future, the timeless appeal of sci-fi fascinates us more than ever. If we look at the games listed in this real money casino, we can see that space adventures and aliens are widely used as symbols and themes. Some slots are based on classic sci-fi movies, while others take unique ideas and convert them into new and eye-catching games while sticking to the traditional sort of casino gameplay over several spinning reels. Vegas Space Heist by Qora is a slot that features aliens in their spaceships, but rather than outer space, it's set in the familiar Las Vegas strip, with cats and dice among the symbols that can be used to create winning lines. The action in Space Coins Hold and Win by 3 Oaks takes place in outer space, with a glowing planet in the background. It has a retro style that goes well with the genre, since classic slot symbols are used to form winning lines.

Robots are also another common feature in sci-fi games, and have won particular popularity, perhaps because, unlike aliens, they are something we can encounter in our daily lives, albeit in a somewhat less complex way than sci-fi depictions typically show. Battle Bots is a great example of our penchant for watching robots battling it out.

Project Hail Mary

An interesting movie to look forward to in 2026 is based on the Project Hail Mary book, which was written by Andy Weir. The film is set for release in March next year, with Ryan Gosling taking on the role of school teacher Ryland Grace, who wakes up on a spaceship suffering from amnesia. The movie also stars Sandra Huller.

In common with many other sci-fi movies, Project Hail Mary is based on the idea that the planet Earth is threatened by something in space. In this case, it's the sun dimming and the possibility that a new Ice Age could destroy human life. Grace meets an alien, whom he calls Rocky, and is forced to make some tough decisions in the battle for survival. With asteroids hitting Earth in real life and other threats occurring regularly, this movie's plot makes us wonder whether something similar may happen in the future.

Dune: Part Three

With two instalments already successfully released, a lot of science fiction fans around the planet are waiting to see what the third film in the Dune series has to offer. This is the final Dune movie from Denis Villeneuve, with Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh all back to play the parts they had in the previous adventures.

It's due to be released at the end of 2026, so there's still a long wait ahead for fans. However, the title is now official, and it's also been confirmed that the movie is to be partly filmed using Imax cameras. Villeneuve has pointed out that this isn't the final part of a trilogy. Rather, it's based on the Dune Messiah book by Frank Herbert, showing us how Paul Atreides becomes the all-powerful emperor under the name of Muad'Dib.

Avatar: Fire and Ash

Another iconic sci-fi franchise is set to continue, with the third Avatar movie from James Cameron due for release before the end of 2025, following a series of delays. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Stephen Lang are among the stars to appear in this new version, with ground-breaking motion capture once again used to bring the world of Pandora to life on our screens.

Jake (played by Worthington) is living with Neytiri's family when they meet an aggressive group of Na'vi called the Ash People. Their leader is called Varang (played by Oona Chaplin), and she's angry because their beliefs did nothing to save the members of her tribe who died following a volcanic eruption. The situation gets more complicated since Varag is an ally of Quaritch, who is already an enemy of Jake.

These upcoming movies show us how the science fiction genre is moving in new directions while retaining many of the classic aspects that have made so many people love these adventures in space.
