Halter Virtual Fencing revolutionizes cattle management across US

Halter a New Zealand-based ag-tech company reported that more than 200 ranchers across 22 US states are using its GPS-enabled solar-powered smart collars to create move and adjust pasture boundaries through a smartphone app. Since launching in the United States last year Halter's technology helped US ranchers establish more than 11000 miles of virtual fencing matching the perimeter of the continental United States and resulting in approximately 220 million dollars in avoided fencing costs.

The collars use sound and vibration to guide cattle within designated boundaries streamlining pasture management and reducing the need for physical fencing and maintenance. The system allows cows to move at their own pace and provides real-time herd behavior monitoring for operational flexibility particularly in challenging landscapes.

Halter completed a 100 million dollar Series D funding round earlier this year reaching a 1 billion dollar valuation. The US operation is headquartered in Colorado and the company employs over 50 people in North America. Halter serves ranchers and farmers in New Zealand Australia and the United States with collars deployed on 600000 head of cattle globally.

Our ranchers are proving whats possible when technology and land stewardship go hand in hand said Justin Wells USA Country Manager. We're seeing lighter workloads higher productivity and more time for things that matter most like family. With a growing community of ranchers and industry partners we're building a genuine movement from the back pastures and kitchen tables.

Halter plans to introduce new products in 2026 aimed at enhancing livestock management and increasing automation.
