Elbit Systems has confirmed the successful launch of its JUPITER space camera aboard the National Advanced Optical System (NAOS) satellite, built by OHB Italia. The spacecraft lifted off from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on a SpaceX Falcon 9, beginning its role in diverse Earth observation missions.

Developed by Elbit Systems ISTAR and EW - ELOP, JUPITER is described as one of the most advanced spaceborne imaging systems available. The camera incorporates a very large aperture with a lightweight structure, designed to maximize performance while minimizing mass.

Its multispectral capabilities include a high-resolution panchromatic channel for fine spatial detail, RGB channels for true-color imaging, and a near-infrared channel for analyzing vegetation, water, and materials. This combination enables superior resolution and advanced image fusion for broad mission applications.

JUPITER can capture long continuous image strips with a wide swath, efficiently mapping extensive regions in a single orbital pass. Data products integrate seamlessly with onboard systems and ground stations, with compatibility for advanced image processing and artificial intelligence engines that deliver actionable intelligence.

In addition to hardware, Elbit Systems contributed ground segment algorithms to the NAOS mission, improving image analysis efficiency. The collaboration with OHB Italia unites satellite engineering expertise with optical technology, resulting in one of the highest-performing imaging payloads currently in orbit.

Elbit Systems highlighted that the system will support military operations, scientific research, and environmental monitoring, strengthening its global role in space-based intelligence and observation.
